The Matt Breida signing makes more sense now. Rookie Isaac Guerendo has been struggling with a hamstring injury since the start of training camp. Additionally, 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan has revealed two more injuries affecting the running back room.

Christian McCaffrey will miss a couple of weeks of practice due to a calf strain.

"Christian has a calf strain, did it a couple days ago," Shanahan explained. "It's alright. He didn't pull it or anything, but you guys probably won't see him this preseason."

Elijah Mitchell is dealing with a strained hamstring. Mitchell and Guerendo worked on the side during Tuesday's practice while McCaffrey was absent.

Shanahan also noted that rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall re-aggravated a previous injury and was pulled midway through practice as a precaution.

"He tweaked his shoulder, something that he did in OTAs," Shanahan explained. "I don't know if it's too serious, but that's why we removed him halfway through practice."

Furthermore, Mitch Wishnowsky is experiencing knee irritation, which may necessitate bringing in a punter for the preseason game against the Tennessee Titans.
