The San Francisco 49ers officially announced two roster moves, including the signing of safety Tracy Walker to a one-year deal. News of Walker's signing was initially reported on Wednesday by Matt Barrows of The Athletic.
To make room on the roster, the team has placed defensive lineman Drake Jackson on the reserve/physically unable to perform (PUP) list, ending his season. The NFL transaction wire previously revealed this move.
The 49ers Communications staff provided the following rundown.
Walker III (6-1, 206) was originally drafted by the Detroit Lions in the third round (82nd overall) of the 2018 NFL Draft. Throughout his six-year NFL career with the Lions (2018-23), he has appeared in 79 games (43 starts) and registered 375 tackles, 23 passes defensed, 4.0 sacks, three interceptions and two forced fumbles. In 2023, Walker appeared in a career-high 17 games (six starts) and totaled 57 tackles, two passes defensed, 1.0 sack, and one forced fumble.
A 29-year-old native of Brunswick, GA, Walker attended Louisiana-Lafayette University (2013-17), where he appeared in 50 games (42 starts) and recorded 275 tackles, 26 passes defensed, eight interceptions, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and 0.5 sack.
Jackson (6-4, 273) was placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform List on July 24, 2024.
