San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan provided several injury updates on Monday as the team began preparations for their second preseason game. The Niners will host the New Orleans Saints at Levi's Stadium on Sunday.

Cornerback Ambry Thomas is set to undergo surgery on Tuesday after breaking his right forearm during the preseason opener against the Tennessee Titans.

Defensive tackle Kalia Davis, a 2022 sixth-round draft pick, will miss half the season due to a knee injury.

"Messed up his knee in the game," Shanahan explained. "He's gonna be about the same timeline. He's gonna get surgery on Thursday. He'll be back sometime halfway through the year."

When asked about the specifics of Davis' injury, Shanahan admitted, "I don't know exactly what it was, but some stuff behind his kneecap."

While the 49ers are still working out the details of Davis' roster status, Shanahan clarified that the team plans to keep him on board. The coach stated, "We got to figure all that out, but we plan on Kalia being around here, and we plan on him coming back and helping us this year."

Shanahan also provided an update on safety Talanoa Hufanga, who is recovering from an ACL injury sustained in November 2023.

"He's going to see his doctor on Thursday to get his checkup, and we'll see where he is after that," Shanahan shared. "It's going very well. Hopefully, we'll get some good news on that, and we can get him back in practice sooner than later."

Additionally, offensive lineman Jon Feliciano is dealing with knee irritation and soreness, which has kept him out of practice. He is not expected to return this week. Cornerback Isaac Yiadom will be sidelined after rolling his ankle during a walkthrough last week. His total recovery time is estimated to be two weeks.
