Shortly after the news broke that the San Francisco 49ers had reached a four-year, $120 million contract agreement with wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, ESPN insider Adam Schefter reported that the deal was the same one that had been on the table since August 10.
This deal was offered shortly after the team and player resumed contract negotiations. It was a vast improvement over San Francisco's previous offer, which was believed to be around $26 million per year.
Schefter's report suggested that Aiyuk and his agent ultimately conceded in the standoff with the 49ers. Naturally, Aiyuk's agent, Ryan Williams, has denied Schefter's claims but added a humorous twist to his denial.
On social media, Williams commented, "That's factually inaccurate but the check still cashes."
Regardless of the report's accuracy, Aiyuk's financial future is now secure, and he has achieved his goal of becoming one of the NFL's highest-paid receivers.
With the contract settled, the team and Aiyuk can now focus on preparing for their Week 1 matchup against the New York Jets, ending months of relentless drama and speculation.
