Moody led the NFL with 20 points in Week 1, converting all six of his field goal attempts during the 49ers' 32-19 win, including two from beyond 50 yards. His successful kicks came from distances of 46, 51, 31, 53, 23, and 42 yards.
His six field goals tied the franchise record for the most in a single game, a mark previously achieved by Robbie Gould, Jeff Wilkins, and Ray Wersching.
Moody had ups and downs during his rookie campaign last season, replacing long-time kicker Gould.
"Every time that he got more eyes on him and people were waiting for him to fail, he always rebounded and got through that," head coach Kyle Shanahan said on Tuesday. "And when you do that, you build true confidence, and you get stronger through adversity. I feel like he went through a ton in his first year. Coming into his second year, I forget that he is only a second-year player. He handles himself very well and carries himself like a true veteran now."
This is Moody's first Special Teams Player of the Week Award, making him the fourth 49ers kicker to receive the honor in the past 15 years, joining Gould (seven-time winner), Phil Dawson (three-time winner), and David Akers (two-time winner).
Additionally, Moody becomes the second former Michigan Wolverine kicker to win this award, joining Jay Feely, who earned the accolade three times.
Jake Moody's performance this season has been a frustrating storyline for many San Francisco 49ers fans. The second-year kicker has struggled, missing seven of his 30 attempts, including six in the past seven games since returning from a high-ankle sprain.
