The San Francisco 49ers opened the practice window for defensive tackle Kalia Davis on Wednesday but chose not to do the same for rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall, who remains on the non-football injury (NFI) list.

Ahead of Wednesday's practice, head coach Kyle Shanahan was asked why Pearsall's practice window hadn't been opened.

"Just don't feel he's ready to (practice) this week," Shanahan told reporters.

Pearsall is still recovering from a gunshot wound to the chest sustained during a robbery attempt on August 31, and his return to the practice field will have to wait at least another week.

Shanahan acknowledged that he doesn't closely follow the rehabilitation progress of injured players, preferring to focus on preparing his healthy roster for upcoming games.

"I know he's really close, and when he's good to go, himself and the medical staff, we will be pumped to have him back. He's a hell of a player," Shanahan added.

The coach also noted that Pearsall's shoulder injury, which had kept him out of the preseason, was fully healed before the incident on August 31.

Pearsall was selected 31st overall by the 49ers in April's draft.
