While rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall will make his NFL debut on Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs, veteran wideout Jauan Jennings has been ruled out due to a hip injury. Jennings did not participate in practice this week as the San Francisco 49ers prepare for their Super Bowl rematch against the Chiefs. However, head coach Kyle Shanahan offered reassurance regarding Jennings' long-term outlook.
"I don't think it's long-term," Shanahan told reporters. "I hope he'll be ready for next week. He was close this week, so hoping to get him back next week."
Jennings may be the third receiver on the depth chart, but he leads the team with 404 receiving yards and has scored three touchdowns.
Kicker moves
The 49ers have lost their second kicker in as many games, with Matthew Wright exiting last week's matchup against the Seattle Seahawks due to shoulder and back injuries. Just four days prior, Jake Moody suffered a high-ankle sprain.
Shanahan revealed that the 49ers will place Wright on injured reserve.
"He's hurt worse than we expected, so he can't get back," Shanahan said. "And Jake Moody is still week-to-week, high-ankle sprain, so I'm not expecting him next week either, but hopefully, after the bye."
The 49ers plan to elevate kicker Anders Carlson from the practice squad for Sunday's game, marking their third different kicker in three games.
