San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy did not address reporters on Thursday, breaking his usual routine of speaking after the team's second practice of the week. Typically, the quarterback expected to start is made available to the media, making Purdy's absence noteworthy and concerning.

Purdy sustained a shoulder injury during Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks and has been dealing with soreness throughout the week. He was listed as a limited practice participant on Wednesday and Thursday.

Reporters observed Purdy on the practice field, appearing to test the strength of his shoulder. However, his session was brief, as the quarterback soon exited practice to continue his recovery in the weight room. The 49ers clarified that his absence from media duties was due to ongoing treatment on his sore shoulder.

Whoever is expected to start at quarterback will now speak to reporters on Friday instead.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan provided an update on Purdy during an interview with Bay Area radio station KNBR following Thursday's practice.

"He was still limited today," Shanahan said. "He didn't do as much yesterday, did a little bit more today, but by no means was he doing his normal workload. He went out there and did a little bit, and then went back in about halfway through, and rested his arm up, and just continued getting his rehab. So hopefully, it'll be feeling great on Sunday."

When asked if Purdy's shoulder injury impacted his performance against the Seahawks, Shanahan dismissed the idea.

"No, I don't think it was [impactful]," he said. "I think it was just some pain-wise and stuff, and getting warmed up on the sidelines, and stuff he talked about. But in terms of his throwing and everything, I didn't see anything that looked any different, and he didn't complain about that in any way to me. So I felt all right about that."

Availability of Williams and Bosa in jeopardy

Shanahan also provided updates on left tackle Trent Williams and defensive end Nick Bosa, both of whom are dealing with injuries. Williams played through an ankle injury against Seattle, while Bosa sustained a hip and oblique injury in the same game.

When asked if Williams' availability for Sunday was in doubt, Shanahan admitted, "He is in jeopardy. I mean, just like Nick is, too. And it was the same last week."

Bosa's hip and oblique issue is a new injury, unrelated to the hip issue he's played through in recent weeks.

"Trent battled," Shanahan continued. "He wasn't able to do much at all in practice all last week, and he was almost limping in the stadium, but he found a way to get out there and help us. So, I was real impressed with just the fact that he was able to pull off that game, and be able to play throughout it, and still be able to do it at a level that gives you a chance to win.

"So he's in a similar situation this week. It's been tough to get him out on the practice field and things like that. Hopefully, he'll be able to do it tomorrow. But when you comes to guys like Trent or guys like Nick, because of who they are, because of their history, and also because of the position they play, those guys, regardless of how this week goes, they'll have all the way up to kickoff, or whenever the latest we can decide that is."
