Brandon Allen will take the reins for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers, marking his first NFL start since 2021. However, ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the team anticipates its regular starter, Brock Purdy, will be back in the lineup for next weekend's road game against the Buffalo Bills.
"49ers believe QB Brock Purdy should be able to return next Sunday at Buffalo despite his shoulder soreness," Schefter wrote. "Then again, they also thought he would be able to start today at Green Bay before he couldn't. Still, for the time being, there does not seem to be a high level of concern."

Purdy suffered a shoulder injury during last weekend's game against the Seattle Seahawks. The setback left him sore and significantly limited in practice throughout the week.
Earlier in the week, the 49ers were optimistic that Purdy would play in their critical Week 12 matchup at Lambeau Field. However, on Friday, the team announced that he was ruled out.
Purdy has been a key part of the 49ers' season, starting all 10 games and throwing for 2,613 yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. With a 5-5 record, the 49ers are hoping for an upset against the Packers to climb back into the NFC playoff race.
