Emotions ran high before the San Francisco 49ers and Green Bay Packers faced off in their Week 12 matchup at Lambeau Field. According to Cam Inman of Bay Area News Group, coaches had to step in to separate the two teams during pregame warmups. While no punches were thrown, it was clear both sides were eager to kick off this highly anticipated rematch of last season's Divisional Playoff meeting.
The 49ers enter the game desperate to turn their season around after falling to 5-5. However, they faced a difficult challenge, with several key players, including quarterback Brock Purdy, defensive end Nick Bosa, and tackle Trent Williams, sidelined due to injuries.
Meanwhile, Packers quarterback Jordan Love admitted this matchup carried extra weight following last season's playoff loss to the 49ers.
"I think just ending the season, getting into the playoffs, and then being knocked out by the 49ers, whoever it would've been, that game is definitely going to sit with you," Love said last week. "And that's what you got to sit with all offseason. Going back and watching that game and seeing what you could've done better, what you could've done differently.
"So it definitely sits with you through the offseason, and obviously you move on, but just knowing that's the team that knocked us out, we're definitely hungry for this game."
Sitting at 7-3 on the season, the Packers kick off the contest as six-point favorites. Love acknowledged the lingering motivation from last year's defeat.
"Having them being the team that knocked us out last year definitely plays a factor, but at the end of the day, [they're] an NFC opponent, and since I've been here, we've had a lot of games against the Niners," Love added. "So I want to go out there and get this win."
