San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan addressed reporters during a Friday conference call, a day after the team's 12-6 loss to the Los Angeles Rams. The discussion included the unusual situation involving linebacker De'Vondre Campbell, who refused to enter the game after linebacker Dre Greenlaw exited with knee soreness.
Campbell was not injured and had yet to play a snap during the game. Reportedly frustrated over being replaced as a starter by Greenlaw, Campbell told coaches he didn't want to play and left for the locker room.
When asked if Campbell would remain with the team next week, Shanahan responded bluntly, "No, I don't."
"I've never been around anybody that's ever done that, and I hope I'm never around anybody that does that again," Kittle said.
As for how the team plans to handle the situation, Shanahan offered some insight.
"We're working through the semantics of exactly how to deal with it," Shanahan explained. "I mean, you guys heard from me last night. You guys heard from our players. His actions from the game is not something you can do to your team or your teammates and still expect to be a part of our team.
"So, we're working through exactly the semantics of it right now, but we'll handle the situation appropriately."
Shanahan also noted that Campbell has yet to provide further explanation for his behavior.
