The San Francisco 49ers are continuing their search to replace recently fired special teams coordinator Brian Schneider. On Sunday, the team interviewed Detroit Lions assistant special teams coach Jett Modkins for the position.

Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports that the 49ers have also interviewed Denver Broncos assistant special teams coach Chris Banjo.

"Two years into his coaching career after a 10-year stint as a DB and special teamer, Banjo is getting looks to advance," Garafolo noted.

Banjo, 34, a former defensive back, played for the Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, and Arizona Cardinals before joining the Broncos' coaching staff in 2023, where he worked alongside special teams coordinator Ben Kotwica.

Most of Banjo's playing time in the NFL came as a key special teams contributor. His interview with the 49ers was conducted virtually.
