The Jets' dysfunction as an organization may make them a tough sell for any highly sought-after candidate. The team fired head coach Robert Saleh in October following a disappointing 2-3 start. They managed just three additional wins over the remainder of the 2024 season, capping off another frustrating year.
Saleh, however, remains a strong candidate for several head coaching vacancies across the league. If none of those opportunities materialize, the 49ers are widely expected to consider bringing him back as their defensive coordinator.
Griese joined head coach Kyle Shanahan's staff in 2022 after a successful run as a broadcaster. Before transitioning to coaching and media, he played 11 seasons as an NFL quarterback after the Denver Broncos selected him in the third round of the 1998 NFL Draft.
Meanwhile, the Jets continue their search for a new head coach, reportedly having interviewed at least 15 candidates as they work to fill the vacancy.
