Earlier this month, NFL Media analyst Charles Davis released his first mock draft of the year, and he had the San Francisco 49ers strengthening their pass rush by selecting Marshall defensive end Mike Green.
On Thursday, Davis unveiled his latest mock draft. While the top picks have shifted slightly from his initial projections, his pick for the 49ers at No. 11 remains unchanged. He still has general manager John Lynch using the team's first-round pick on Green.
"The Niners are determined to pump up their pass rush, and Green is the choice to help them in that effort," Davis wrote. "Green's performance during Senior Bowl week showed his vast potential."
Wayne P. Brown, who attended the Senior Bowl, was impressed by Green's showing.
"Marshall's edge rusher, Mike Green, was the talk of the Senior Bowl," Brown wrote. "He has the perfect speed-to-power ratio to give the 49ers the boost they need on the edge."
Green (6-3, 251) started his college career at Virginia in 2021 before transferring to Marshall, where he played his final two seasons.
Brown later added, "With the release of defensive end Leonard Floyd, the 49ers may want to look to complement their premier pass rusher, Nick Bosa. Adding a premier pass rusher like Mike Green could give Kris Kocurek and defensive coordinator Robert Saleh unlimited options to utilize on the football field."
Green had a standout 2024 season, registering 84 tackles (23 for loss), two passes defensed, and three forced fumbles in 13 games, while leading the nation with 17 sacks, according to Sports Reference. He finished his college career with 131 tackles (33 for loss), 22.5 sacks, two passes defensed, and four forced fumbles.
