According to Jarryd Hayne himself, he has been signed to the San Francisco 49ers' practice squad. The free agent running back, who was waived by the 49ers on Saturday, cleared waivers this afternoon.
The former Australian rugby league star has gained quite a following among fans, who questioned his release by the team. During a 27-6 loss to the St. Louis Rams on Sunday, the 49ers suffered injuries to RB Reggie Bush, who is feared to be lost for the season, and RB Mike Davis. Davis will have surgery tomorrow on his fractured hand.
A team could still sign Hayne, but they would need to place him on their active roster. With the possibility of one or two more roster spots opening up soon for the 49ers, Hayne could be elevated to the active roster.
